Santa Domenica Vittoria (ME)
The intervention recovered a part of the former route of the SS116 where there is the old stone bridge that crosses the Donnaviva torrent.
The area, easily accessed from the SS116, is situated inside a natural, sheltered valley, in an area of exceptional beauty.
The environmental and functional upgrading of the site has made it possibile for the realisatione of a gateway to the Nebrodi Park.
Considering the significant slope, we proceeded to ground levelling without damaging the surrounding area and built embankments with large blocks of stones.
The importante presence of a source of water has made it possibile for the realization of a fountain,
made by stone masonry, with water bowls arranged at different levels to allow animals of different sizes to drink.
The pading area and parking spaces is made of stone bases with grass in between. The access paths are made according to the old
cobblestone and stone banding link style. Pedestrian paths have been planned to lead to the park and the gazebo area with benches and tables for picnics.
We paid particular attention in choosing plants, selected for the adaptability to the environment and their consolidated presence in a local
landscape: Acer campestris, Castanea sativa, Wild Fagus, populus nigra, Populus nigra pyramidalis, Quercus cerris, Quercus ilex used in isolated areas or
in suitable compositions.
Bushes and decorative shrubs were positioned in the following locations: Corylus avellana (hazel); Crataegus monogyna (hawthorn); Ilex aquifolium (holly);
Lomicera perclymenum (honeysuckle) and Rosa canine.
The choice of these essences has allowed them to integrate the intervention into the surrounding landscape.
