A few words About us

SCAU STUDIO was founded in 1980 as an associated practice of architecture and urban planning, and since 2000 has evolved into an integrated design company with a renewed organizational and operational philosophy.

With over thirty years of experience, the firm has developed a wide portfolio of projects for public and private clients, ranging from residential complexes, offices, schools, healthcare and religious buildings to tourist resorts, commercial centers, and sports facilities.

SCAU STUDIO’s design philosophy is rooted in the reinterpretation of Modernist traditions, combining rationalist heritage with lightness, rhythm, and chromatic balance. This approach has earned the studio recognition through publications in leading architectural journals and participation in national and international exhibitions.

Certified under ISO 9001 since 2002, SCAU STUDIO continues to deliver high-quality, innovative, and recognizable design solutions across diverse sectors.

Angelo Di Mauro
Engineer

He attended the University of Catania where he received his degree in Civil Engineering in 1979. He is on the “Engineer Register” since 1979 at n.1290. Angelo Di Mauro has been involved in several urban projects such as school buildings and civic centers, and he is qualified to be safety responsible for building constructions. From 1984 to 1996 he has been councilor of the Engineer Association in Catania, holding the office of treasurer. Now he is also a member of CRU (Urban planning Regional Council) in Sicily. His experience includes project management, construction administration and management and the development of the firm’s quality control program. While maintaining his interest in urban projects, and a significant involvement in the designing most of the firm’s projects, he also negotiates all contracts. He has earned great respect among clients due to his accurate cast estimating, responsiveness and experience in legal matters about urban planning.

Angelo Vecchio
Engineer and Architect

He achieved a degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Catania in 1980. Few years later he attended the University of Reggio Calabria where he received a degree in Architecture with highest honors. He is on the Engineer register at n.1470 and on the Architect register at n.1154. Since 1989 he has been member of AIAP (Italian Association of Landscape Architecture) and he is qualified to be safety responsible for building constructions. Angelo Vecchio is personally involved in each project and in his work he always focused on environmental matters, preserving and Structure renovation historical buildings and landscape planning. e believes that the aesthetic qualities of a building come from the specific characteristics of each project such as its location, construction technology and purpose. In searching for the most appropriate response to each project, his designs have covered a wide range of solutions and materials. He is also experienced in urban planning.

Alfio Cavallaro
Building surveyor

He achieved a diploma in building surveyor at the High School of Acireale in 1983. He is on the Building surveyor register at num. 2492. He is an active member of SCAU. He has over thirty years of professional experience, with a strong specialization in construction cost control and quantity surveying for both public and private projects.

His expertise includes the management of works accounting, cost estimation, and financial control throughout all phases of the construction process, ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance with contractual requirements.

In addition to his consolidated experience, he is actively involved in BIM-based design processes and 3D modeling, contributing to the integration of digital methodologies within the firm and supporting coordinated, efficient, and data-driven project development.

Fabrizio Ciurcina
Engineer

He is a Design Engineer and active partner at SCAU.. He has been a registered Professional Engineer with the Order of Engineers of the Province of Catania (registration no. 7019) since March 3, 2015, and holds a Master’s Degree in Building Engineering–Architecture obtained in 2014. His work focuses on architectural design, executive and detailed design, and interior design, spanning both public and private projects. He approaches each project with a strong integration of architectural vision and technical rigor, aiming to balance functionality, aesthetics, sustainability, and compliance with regulations. As an active partner, Fabrizio Ciurcina is involved in the coordination of complex design processes and multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the development of high-quality architectural solutions from concept to construction.

Alessia Venera Maria Di Mauro
Engineer and Architect

Design Engineer and active partner at SCAU. She has been a registered Professional Engineer with the Order of Engineers of the Province of Catania (registration no. 6760) since July 30, 2012, and has been licensed to practice as an Architect since December 2020. She graduated with honors with a Master’s Degree in Building Engineering–Architecture in 2012.
Her professional activity focuses on architectural design, with a strong specialization in the management and coordination of urban planning procedures and project approval processes. She has extensive experience in navigating complex regulatory frameworks, ensuring consistency between design solutions and planning, zoning, and authorization requirements.
In addition to her design practice, she has been an active member of the Council of the Order of Engineers of Catania since 2025, contributing to institutional activities and the advancement of the profession.

Andrea Mazzeo
Engineer

He is a Design Engineer and active partner at SCAU. He has been a registered Professional Engineer with the Order of Engineers of the Province of Catania (registration no. 7269) since November 13, 2016, and holds a Master’s Degree in Building Engineering–Architecture, obtained in 2015.
His professional activity focuses on architectural design and executive design, with experience in both public and private sector projects. He approaches design with a strong technical and methodological focus, ensuring high standards of constructability, regulatory compliance, and project efficiency throughout all phases of development.
As an active partner, Andrea Mazzeo contributes to the coordination of design processes and collaborates within multidisciplinary teams to deliver clear, reliable, and well-structured architectural solutions from concept through execution.
