HOLIDAY RESORT
A holiday home, intended to be the site of a restaurant with a reception room for events, created through a restoration and extension of an old country house which has been partially absorbed into the town and deprived of its pre-existing outbuildings. The building that existed has been totally renovated and is now used as the restaurant, while a new wing has been added to host a reception room and the areas to service it. The problem of the relationship between the existing building and the extension was dealt with in terms of proportion by the addition of blocks which are more or less similar in size to the original building while the materials were chosen to match those present in the original buildings, white stone, lava stone and plaster all brought together in the building tradition but interpreted in a modern key. The void created at the point of contact between the two the blocks, prevents a juxtaposition but allows the perception of the substantial difference between the two and also created the space for the main entrance, so transforming a functional hinge into an area of welcome.
